Returning home

RM4,000 jump for Malaysian medical specialists who return
By CHOI TUCK WO

LONDON: Malaysian specialist doctors will be rewarded with an “instant” pay rise of about RM4,000 if they were to return home and serve the country.
Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said they would immediately move up from the Grade U41 salary scale of RM3,000 to Grade U48 of RM7,000.

It is all about money, Malaysia think again when you decide on something. First they really got to think how come most of the professional do not intend to come back to their home country after they finished study. Second, they need to find out what people wants from them and from there improve accordingly. This is the tough part, improve! Improvement seems to be the hardest thing for our country. Improve their Government Link Services front office staffs to their customers; improve in terms of service efficiency; improve of their management.

If they really want to go for this plan, I predict it will be a very headache for them. What would the senior batch Dr. says? They will need to increase everybody pay or only to those who service oversea? If yes what is the difference between UK Dr and Malaysian Dr.? If they admit UK Dr. expertise is better than they are shooting to themselves. By saying that, Malaysian Dr. is ‘cheaper” and not entitled for the reward? Then more Malaysian Dr. will go away from them.

Let me share some of my opinion on this here; if I would the person who studied oversea, I can tell firmly that I will not come back to work in Malaysia if I can get a job there. Be it UK, US or Australia, their life style is much better than here. Yes, you may think that you never been there, you don’t know the culture. Ok fine, I don’t know because I never travel before. I am talking about lifestyle not government. Their living standard is much lower than ours. In US, you can get a good quality of ice cream with USD1 or 2. Here? RM 10 for a single scoop (Baskin Robin and above; not Magnolia or Walls). You can drive a brand new BMW with USD 35k and a good second car cost about USD8 to 10k. In our country, to drive a BMW you need to spend >RM 300k to get one and >RM 50k for a good second car. (Eg. A 5 years old Toyota or Honda) See the different? The inflation rate in our country is too high and government does nothing to help their people. What they do? Increase the price of high way again and again, TNB increase the price once in every 5 years or less? We are too far behind and …..will never reach there with our leader’s mentality. May be there will be, but we do not know when.
