My trip in May 2008

My team, 8 of us are all set for this hiking trip. We had made payment for the booking and air tickets being purchased.

Air Asia flight from Pg to Kota Kinabalu total spent 252 bucks.

Package price total 1220 bucks

Misc items like hiking boots, hiking sandals will be around 300 to 500 bucks
Hiking backpack 100 to 200 bucks

If you would total up all these capalang expenses, indeed this trip is not going to be cheap. Most Malaysia would rather spend the money for oversea destination. I agree, this trip will cost me around 1.8 to 2k. I can fly to HKG liao lo.

Then again, all of us are the extremists and very enthusiasm towards hiking. We would like to challenge this Mt of our country, Mt of south east asia, the 20th ranked among the Mt around the world. I am not how true it is but i got the source from wikipedia.

The peak



They called it Low's peak. Why call it Low when it is the highest point of the mountain??
The name is taken by the first ascent - Hugh Low. The person who found this peak in 1858.

In climbing, a first ascent (FA) is the first modern recorded climb to reach the top of a mountain, or the first to follow a particular climbing route. First ascents are notable because they are the climbs that entail genuine exploration; the risks are higher and the challenge greater than for any later climber.

Hugh Low (May 10, 1824 - April 18, 1905) was a British colonial administrator and naturalist. Low was born in Clapton, England, the son of a Scottish horticulturist. At an early age, he acquired botanical expertise working in the family nursery.

At 20, his father sent him on a collecting expedition to South East Asia. He based himself in Singapore and concentrated particularly on the Borneo flora. While in Singapore, Low came in contact with the nephew of Sir James Brooke, the White Rajah of Sarawak. In the months following he became an interior of Sarawak.

In 1847, Brooke was appointed Governor of the recently established British colony of Labuan and Consul General of Borneo. He gave Low the post of Colonial Secretary. In 1848, Low returned to Far East, meeting and marrying on the way Catherine Napier, daughter of Colonel William Napier, newly appointed as Lt. Governor of Labuan. In Labuan Low acquired administrative experience, fluency in Malay and an enduring reputation as a naturalist.

It was also from Labuan he made his three visits to Mount Kinabalu, the first in March 1851 and twice with Spenser St. John, the consul General of Brunei, in 1858
