Gua Tempurung (literally, cave of the coconut shell), is one of the most extensive cave systems in peninsula Malaysia. Located in Gopeng, Perak, Gua Tempurung is accessible from the North South Highway by exiting the Gopeng Interchange approximately 25 kilometres south of Ipoh. The length of the cave is about one kilometre, and can be covered within one and a half hours return journey, unless many stops are made.
A subterranean river runs along the cave, presenting a unique challenge to adventurous spelunkers.Different parts of the cave has been given delightfully colourful names. These include Desperate Passage, where active stalactite formations reach down to the stream.
The cave was once used by the communist as a hideout between 1950 and 60, and even today, it bears graffiti left by them. One section of the cave is known as Lee Meng's Hideout, referring to the Communist courier who was reported to have hidden there during the Emergency. Gergasi Cavern is so named for its sheer size.
Alam Cavern has a slender stalactite called The Tongkat, while at The Battlefield, you find many fallen stalactities - the largest was named the Fallen Warrior. Explorers of Gua Tempurung have the option of following the dry tour as well as grand tour, which require walking along the river bed and often in the water. Participants following the grand tour are advised to bring along a change of clothing as well as their own torchlights.
The plan was planned by me a few weeks ago when we know we gonna have a long break during Wesak and Labour day. And most of our friend agreed to go along, and we were eventually successfully gathered more than 10 persons for this trip. Alright, i was so excited as i really dreamed to get wet in this cave for so long ago.
Again and again, we were talking about this trip and at the end of the day, only left 3 of us. :-( Nevertheless, the plan still go on. First, me suggested to YK, and she said she is joining. Then the invitation goes to Thum, Kelvin, LS, ED and CW. Thum, CW and Kelvin agreed to come in pairs, with their 'spouse'. So from 2 persons increased to 10; added in our friend from Singapore made to 11.
Last minute, one of my gal fren LC changed her mind to join us, bingo 12 pax. What happened to make the other 8 not joining at the end?? First, Kelvin quit .... its ok, i still have 10. Then Thum and CW's car hit in a road accident. Ouch!!! I lost 4 from this incident, cant blame them though. Then LS need to stay home to help his family in prayers stuff, no objection for that too. Now left, 5.
So, the 5 persons were firmed and wanted to go no matter how. 2nd of May, 6am, i got a sms from my sgp fren telling me his bus broken down and will be late for 3 hours. OMG!! Now i have 4.... LC called me telling that she had very bad stomach upset and not sure whether she is fit enough to join. I told her not to and stay home rest. Now, from 12 down to 3!! However..... i told YK i still wanna go no matter what! 风雨无阻！
We departed from Penang and headed to Tambun to meet ED. By 730am we reached Ed's house. And we told him what happened, ED told me.... "Why not? we still can go without them." Alright.... great, so we started to drive from Tambun at 745am.
Still bz replying sms while driving.... siao one!
10am, we reached Ipoh town and ED brought us to Fusan restaurant to have our breakfast. Yes, the mooncake maker 富山.

To get there is not so hard.
Option no.1
Exit from Simpang Pulai on the north - south highway. Then make a left turn on the first junction and look for Gopeng. All you need to do is to proceed the road until you see a Giant signboard telling you where Gua Tempurung is. Its pretty easy.
Option no. 2
Exit from Ipoh Utara and turn to left and you will see Jaya Jusco at your left, make a left turn and proceed the road for 20 minutes until you see the giant signboard telling you how to get there.
If you still find it, stop at the roadside and ask someone, anyone in Ipoh will tell you how to get there.
The ticket selling counter, the wet package is limited to min 8 persons. We had only 3, how? Luckily there were 2 large groups, so we joined them. Our ticket cost us $22 per pax.

The way out
My shoes full of sands, thanks to the under river walking activity. The entire walking distance is about 3km. Forget not that we were crawling, yes we crawled and walked like a duck. Can you imagine how tiring it was? That took us 4.5 hours to complete!!! 3 of us were exhausted.
Started at 11am and completed at 3.30pm

I reached home at 11pm... 1 word... EXHAUSTED (I woke up at 610am) !!! And when Erica saw me, she shouted loudly " Yee yee!!!!" and then she ran over me and gave me a hug and kiss on my cheek. SYOK!!! I passed to her the mooncake i bought and she was so happy to see those. "Tortoise and piggy! ar!!" she said. Her mom asked "Who bought that ??" She answered,"Yee yee bought oh.." She is getting more adorable now, love her very much! I missed her so much, i kept thinking of her when i was on my way back.. charm.... love sick at her. :D
