I read through The Star online and again I found this blog at “Citizen’s blog”.

I believe; indeed what they said and thought were true. Then again, my perception is that we don’t blame the student 100%-ly but education ministry and the “excellent” education system by using Bahasa Malaysia as a main medium in teaching. We all learn in BM except for Bahasa Cina and Bahasa Inggeris. See? Even English spelled as Inggeris, so patriotisms huh!
In the end of the day, what happened? Do you think teaching all subjects in BM will help students in their English in their later day? Well, if the student is keen in learning then yes, otherwise it will remain as it is. Ask yourself do you speak and work with BM after you leave your high school? The answer is NO! Everyone speaks English and write reports, email in English. For me, BM is totally useless and I learnt and studied for it just for the sack to pass my PMR and SPM! You can be a straight A’s student but once you failed BM (both oral and written) means you will fail totally! Ridiculous! I learnt my English not from the school!!! I learnt during my part time job as a McD’s counter crew. Plus the pressure from my sister in forcing me to speak proper word, proper sentence, proper grammar and lastly my own enthusiasm to learn in English.
Don’t be surprised, even USM Master Degree class also in BM!!! No kidding man! How do all of us expect the fresh grad from LOCAL UNI able to speak proper English? Therefore, do not surprises if a grad cannot speak proper English, blame the school, the system, the teachers, the lecturers and government.
For Chinese primary school students, we start learning all in BM from Form one to Form five. Where as for Kebangsaan primary school students start since standard one to Form five! All in BM and now only the education ministry wants to start teaching in English? I guess even the teachers and lecturers (Local Uni) having difficulty in teaching. Except those ages more than 40 as they received English based education olden time.
After so long with BM, they want to switch it back to English, it is not easy. In S’re, even the hawker aunty able to speak English. The reason is that their education systems is all standardized and never change of teaching medium since day one. That is why all S’rean able to speak English.
S’re have their systematic LRT and great public transportation. Low fare taxis and disciplined citizens. They don’t cut queue on the road, they don’t simply throw rubbish on the floor and they queue up for both taxis and buses. Where are we? *sigh ….. :~{
